I would like to know what life would be like living in Hendersonville, NC

You might try starting a thread entitled something along the lines of "Thinking of retiring in the Henderson, NC area. Any advice?" in the Western NC forum. I saw you had responded to an old post there. You have to give people time to respond, it is seldom instantaneous. The people who will be responding to you are just people who live in the area who want to help someone out, not professionals. Also you might want to use the forum search feature in that forum and put in the area you want to look at to see what people have said about it in past threads.

Is Hendersonville, NC so small that being anonymours is difficult, but on the flip side is it easy to make quality friends there? Although I was raised in a small conservative central N.Y. town, I later lived in big cities, which opened one up to so much diversity and growth as a human being, which I found enjoyable, interesting, and educational. I never want to be so close minded, I stop growing and accepting change or others who are different. Some might refer to me as a conservative liberal perhaps. Is Hendersonville a melting pot of mostly nice people from various walks of life with different religious values, financial settings, and political views who accept others and live in peace and harmony. Some of my curiosity on these subjects stem from citydata.com stating the present population is approximately 13,288 with an average age being 68. Not sure what to expect with those two statistics. I'm a single guy who is retired now and planning to relocate to the Hendersonville area by year's end. I'm moving from Tampa, Florida to escape the extreme heat, humidity, and year long high pollen count, which contribute to my daily allergies, perenial rhinitis, and constant sinus infections. I'm presently taking those controversial Cellestone steroid injections every three months to function here as the multiple surgeries, immunotherapy, and medications prescribed in the past all proved futile. GRRR! When I previously moved from the Syracuse, N.Y. area to Atlanta, Georgia, I became an acute asthmatic, which miraculously disappeared when I later moved to Tampa, Florida. Hopefully, when I move from Tampa to the Hendersonville area, I'll leave these daily allergy and sinus problems behind too. I flew up to Asheville last year to have allergy testing done. With the exception of an off the chart reaction to dust-mites, my other test results were all negative. When purchasing a house/condo, what neighborhoods would you not recommend in Hendersonville? I'm anxious to go tent camping in N.C. as the parks here are so flat and open. Is Hendersonville really more affordable than Asheville? All information and constructive advice is appreciated.

I really wouldn't clue the ladies of Hendersonville into the fact that a single male is moving there, lol. Boy will you ever get a welcome and will never have to cook again.

I would spend as much time there this summer as you can. You may be able to sublet a condo for a month or two, or do "Home Away." Everyone's allergies respond differently in different settings, and it seems summer would be the true test.

I get the impression that the people from Hendersonville are nice folks from all over. There seems to be an active retired population. When I visit, fellow greyhairs seem to be out and about doing things and enjoying themselves. Rent for awhile and see what you think.

As to the allergies, hopefully your way will be easier there or elsewhere. Sounds like you have been through it.

H'ville is fine community and area, imo...
You might post similar thread on the Western NC forum, found in the NC State forum: several local mavens on that board, from H'ville area.

The key for you is health, and having lived in western NC for the past 12 years, the area is not without its own set of potential high pollen days, according to the weather guessers and on line stats.

Air Quality is much improved over the past decade+ imo, however.

Hendersonville is quite low in altitude, so summer is not exactly brisk or 'cool' by any measure.

Motordavid. With your being a long term resident in WNC, I appreciate the in-sight and perspective shared. Hopefully your high pollen count days are seasonal unlike here where something is always pollenating every day of the year to include fungi and molds. You described Hendersonville as quite low in altitude, which I'm sure is true compared to living higher up in the mountains. However, Hendersonville's elevation being about 2,100' is a GIANT step up from Tampa at 48' above sea level, which change should also be beneficial. Air conditioning is my biggest trigger for developing long term sinus infections so escaping from this air conditioned box I live in here, where the a/c runs around the clock for 10 1/2 months a year, will surely be a welcome and helpful change too.

Are you sure that the pollen and the like will not do you in in WNC?

I have not spent a lot of time in Hendersonville BUT I have spent some time in Weaverville, which is directly north of Asheville.
