This is probably not a new poll since they're often out-dated by the time they're on my home page. But I was surprised to see the results. It's interesting to see where your own state is placed for some of the things. My state ranked number 6 (I think) for safety.

Check it out and see where your state or your perspective state is rated.

That's a pretty interesting list ...

Austin, TX is one of the worst? Funny since it's become the popular cheap place to live.

San Francisco one of the best? Interesting, since it's so expensive ...

I would have thought the reverse would be true.

Tampa, FL was listed as both the best and worst place to retire.

Yeah ... I saw that too. Guess they can't make up their minds. Just goes to show how helpful these lists are ...

LOL

Very funny and yet thought-provoking. Since a moderator posted this... Would it be ok to run this on the general u.s. forum, too? I know there's a rule against cross posting, but I think the people there would have some interesting reactions.

It was interesting to me, jammie. I had not known some of those stats.

You're free to post it in the General section if you'd like to. We are allowed to post the same article in UP TO two places.

This topic gave me a laugh since we often discuss the best places to retire. I guess we should know the worst ones so we can avoid them. No I don't really go by these lists but I do read them. You want all the information you can get before making a move.

I copied it to the general forum. It will be intersting to see what people say. I do have to wonder about Austin being a hard place to find a doctor who takes Medicare. How do you find such things out? If that's true... that's a good thing to know.

What is even funnier about this is that this article's companion article on the "best places" to retire to has San Francisco as No. 1. I know it is a beautiful city but it is insanely expensive and out of the reach of most Americans. It is totally unrealistic. So critcising a state like Connecticut for high taxes is okay (even though the state has excellent services for seniors) but having outragous housing prices that are unaffordable to all but the very wealthy is okay. Yeah... right. Jay
