As summer brings all kinds of bugs, many biting or venomous, I'm wondering if there is anywhere with a moderate climate that isn't full of bugs. I think it's unlikely, but if you live somewhere like this, please share.
No flying bugs here in Lima although I have seen small ants and cockroaches. the weather is pretty much 60-80 degrees year round, Maybe 180 days of sun, no rain or storms of any kind!
When I visit friends in West Seattle, they keep the windows open without the flyscreens in place.....I rarely see any bugs when we are sitting out in the garden, just alot of hummingbirds flying around. They tell me there is no bug problem in West Seattle.
Southern California has minimal bugs, but certainly not no bugs at all. Spiders do seem to be pretty ubiquitous, and they have to catch something in their webs to eat.

Most of the Seattle area has less bugs than many areas of the country. We do get some mosquitoes in spring due to standing water until July or so when it starts to dry out. We also do get some yellow jackets in summer, but not too bad. The worst problem for bugs is the spiders. We call August/September spider season. Nothing harmful, just annoying to run into a web when you go out the door in the morning.

Other than the giant banana slugs, of course. And the black slugs and the leopard slugs. ;-)
But at least they don't bother people. :-)
I'd be curious to know what areas (other than where I live now) don't have to worry about brown recluse spiders, fire ants, or palmetto bugs. Although I think those last two are restricted to areas south of Maryland, right?
I lived near a lake in Massachusetts and there were no mosquitoes. People said the wind from the lake kept them away and I know there were a lot in every other part of town. There are also no mosquitoes if you live right near the ocean in this state, again the sea breeze or something. I appreciate being able to sit out at night and not have to worry or be bothered. Both times I just lucked out and never thought to even ask first. I didn't know there were such places.
BUT there are ticks by the billion around here, all around New England.
Both Summer and warm climates tend to attract and be conducive to insects. Unless you are seeking a relatively cold climate, you may have to compromise.
