Clint Eastwood at 84 and still directing and making movies (his latest "Jersey Boys"). I had heard that he'd stopped acting but I'm hoping that isn't the case. In an interview I read about him this morning he said, "It's fashionable to pigeonhole everybody. You're 60, you're a senior. At 60, I felt like I was about 40. At 40, I felt like I was about 18. It's just all mental attitude".

from the world of jazz:

Sonny Rollins -- last survivor of the famous 1957 "Great Day in Harlem" photo, and Buddy DeFranco, who, at 91, has crossed paths with just about everyone.

Why the interest in older famous people? After all, they're just . . . PEOPLE . . . like me and you, your neighbors and friends, my neighbors and friends. There are sickly famous people, amazing very old famous people. Who cares?

They only have to be famous so that other people here will have heard of them. Somebody could talk about their 90 year old Uncle Joe who got to hold the flag in the Memorial Day ceremony and that he is still going strong but the rest of us won't know who he is. We're having fun, we do care, and sorry you can't enjoy it.

I understand your point, and it's quite reasonable. And I don't mean to come off as cranky, but I guess I'd personally rather read about someone's 90-year-old Uncle Joe! I hear enough already about celebrities. (But I'll be quiet!)

We just lost Andy Rooney not that long ago.

Williama Shatner is still working at warp speed

Laura Ingalls Wilder didn't start her career as an author of children's books until she was 65. She was still writing up until her death at age 80. Phyllis Whitney kept cranking out her mystery novels
with the assistance of her daughter when she was 90.

Don Rickles is still doing stand-up and Bob Newhart is still on TV and making public appearances.

There are a handful of lifeguards who are over 70 at Jones Beach State Park.
