There was a poster in this forum who retired to the Philippines and liked it there, but I don't remember his screen name nor do I recall seeing any posts of his recently. Perhaps some other regular here will have a better memory than mine.

You might want to post your request in the Philippine's thread in the World section. Should be many retirees there posting.

There is a frequent poster here who has retired there. He will reply.
I am nearby *Thailand, but on a temp 'retiree' work assignment. I will need to spend my 'pre-age 65' retirement yrs in a place with affordable healthcare. The Philippines is on my list.

Many perks are offered to retirees as incentive to come to SE Asia. Check out Malaysia my second home Gov site.

Many naysayers who are comfortably living on their pensions and have no interest or desire to live overseas will soon make this thread their favorite spot to hang out and discourage you. Kinda like flies and ants at your picnic.,...

Yes it is viable,
Yes many thousands do it.
No, it is not ez.
Not everyone will desire to do this.

I think those that have been successful have already traveled to the particular country and are adaptable. I found Thailand to be a comfortable fit and the Thai people very friendly. Healthcare was excellent. We are going again in November.

We are friends with a couple who are from the Philippines. They are close to retirement and the husband wants to go back for the low cost of living. His wife is very much against it because of her feeling that they could become targets for kidnapping for ransom.

No freezing cold below "zero" temperatures!

That is very encouraging! Your comments provide motivation and context - and also lend courage! - to those of us (err, that would be me, lol!) who are a tad timid by nature. I always like reading about the resilience with which you tackle life's challenges!
