I am a retired economist and the content of this article is all accurate, but do you find the title offensive? or am I just being too sensitive and it's just marketing? Government Study Indicates Retirees Hate Their Grandchildren | The Retirement Blog

Didn't pursue the link. That it's a government study makes it instantly suspect in my book.

Counting two on their way my wife and I have 13 grandchildren and a great grandchild and we were only children.

This blog had to do with seniors being resistant to any changes in Social Security, hence "hating" their grandchildren. I find the title misleading.

I find the premise misleading. That is not to say there isn't some truth to the Chicken Little tone of the article. But it is to say that the coming generations will likely come up with their own solutions. They will certainly have enough impetus to "Throw the bums out." What remains to be seen, and a lot of us won't be around to cheer them on and help them, is whether they have better sense than we've shown.

Looks like a blog with someone blowing off some steam about the Social Security system . . . and just tagging on that we all must "hate" our grandchildren or we wouldn't be participating in what the author refers to as a government sponsored Ponzi scheme.

That's my take. And I'm struggling with the OP's claim to be a "retired economist".

Despite the thread title, the OP's point seems to mean that your grandchildren might not love you so much, and by filing for SS you're ripping them off.

I disagree that the content is accurate. It was nice that he included a cite for his rant, but I doubt few readers would bother reading the cited CBO report. (I find it perplexing that the CBO released the report less than two weeks before the Social Security and Medicare Trustee's Report is to be released, but perhaps the projected figures remain in the same ballpark regardless.) For some unknown reason, the blogger focused on Social Security, rather than the Medicare/Medicaid/ACA Subsidies component. Go figure.

The 2014 Long-Term Budget Outlook - CBO

If you are a retired economist, take the time to read the complete report - not just the slideshow or summary. It's probably more helpful to maintaining your cognitive health than engaging in brain stimulating games

I don't find the title offensive.
I don't have grandchildren.
Who am I supposed to hate?
