catsy girl, it's an eye opener to return to a place where you used to go. What a shame that those beaches have changed so much for the worse. The 40 minutes away beach sounds like a much better getaway.

ipoetry, There's a lot to do in Rhode Island and for those ofus who live in MA, it's not too far for a short getaway. Welfleet (sigh). I don't do Boston but I'll be forced to if I want to go to a great museum. I hope you have a good time.

What someone said--we're retired and we DON'T have to battle the traffic. Leave on a Monday when the suckers are going to work hahahaha. It's so enjoyable listening to the Friday and Sunday traffic reports on radio and tv--that the non-retirees are not stuck in.
We go to Tourist spots usually in the off times. Early morning etc. I love Rockport.
You should try it at Christmas. Good sales.

I STAYED in Rockport one Christmas! At a B&B. It was so peaceful and a great getaway from all the commercialism and hustle and bustle of Christmas. Next day all the stores were closed. Good suggestion about hitting the sales -- I know exactly what shops I would hit.

Thanks, that's nice to know. I never went to a concert there.

I love outdoor summer concerts and (indoor, of course) Christmas concerts.

The deal was supposed to be I would get two weeks off per year, but the sicker she gets the more excuses people have as to why they can't visit. I'm about in the same boat you are. I haven't been out of town since March! I could leave for a day but not for a two or three day road trip. I am getting antsy, I can tell. I have plenty of family here in town but not ONE of them is willing...or will volunteer...to 'keep an eye on Mom'. I DO work, and could probably pay someone to stay with her, but I won't. Just doesn't seem 'right' somehow. I really want to get down to Tucson and see my grand daughter and her family. If not for Facebook I'd never get to 'see' them. Sigh.
