I can't seem to find out the answer I need after searching online. Perhaps someone here will know.

My husband was laid off but had a severance package ending now. Therefore, unemployment is starting up. If he was to get a temp consulting job (say, for 6 weeks) in December would that 6 week period be extended at the end of his 6 month unemployment benefit time? Or does he just lose this because he found employment?

If I am not clear, his 6 months of unemployment start Sept 1st. In December he will possibly consult for 6 weeks. We want to know if unemployment is then extended for those 6 weeks.

Thank you!

Probably added but each state has their laws so you might want to share your state.

New York. I've been trying to research this online. We will have to call them, but we were hoping someone here would know.

You can not claim unemployment for the days you are working.

I know we can't file for the days we are working. Thank you for responding though. My question is....once the consulting job is over and he re-files, does it get extended so that he gets the full 6 months? Or does he just lose that time.

I recommend that you post your question in the "Unemployment" subforum under "Work and Employment." That group seems to be very knowledgable of the unemployment rules and all the intricacies. My brother, who resides in Texas, has been laid off several times over the years and has used temp work (through temp agencies) to extend out his unemployement benefits. But I know nothing about New York.

Thank you. I tried yesterday to figure out where else to post this. Appreciate your help.
