Oh my, between my husband and I we both get an average of one retirement check per week! We are actually making more in retirement than working. My 2 retirements are first on the month and on the 3rd Wed. His is on the first, and the second Wed. We wake up every morning happy to be alive and able to live exactly like we want to.
that's us, too! if I was medicare eligible, it'd be better yet! but I am able to save more monthly from my two checks than when I was working

for you, glad to see that your hard work and planning has worked out so well!
Most of our retirement checks come in around the beginning of the month here, but my SS check comes in on the second Wednesday, so that's closer to the middle of the month. And the check for my contract work comes in whenever, it's pretty random, based on when I submit the invoice for my work. As you say, my DH and I are doing the happy dance pretty much every day, and actually bring a little more money than when we worked- that's due to fewer deductions, mostly.
Ah, yes! Us CalPERS retirees and those big 'ol, 100K+ pensions. We both have CalPERS pensions and they're nowhere near that fat even combined. Ya see, life has a habit of getting in the way.
If I had stayed married to the ex I'd be receiving roughly half again more than the average state retiree but that includes years in law enforcement and even more years as a manager. However, that evil woman left me and received half of my pension funds as of the date she bailed as well as half my 401(k). And if that wasn't enough she also cleaned out the checking and savings accounts. Then to add insult to injury I had the privilege of paying four-figure child support as well as spousal support - the former for the next 12 years - which certainly had a deleterious affect on rebuilding my 401(k).

Some things you just can't plan for enough.
Now all that being said, the upside is our medical, dental and vision care benefits to include reimbursement for our Medicare Part B premiums and a prescription benefit with very low co-pays and no donut hole. Could be worse!
Curmudgeon that is such as drag to have to split everything when that was definitely not your plan! I think that fear of having to live on half of current income probably keeps a lot of senior marriages together, even when they should split. I could live on my half, but it would really s#ck!
Hmmm incentive based/pay for performance= spiking?
If Independent Institute is to be believed, and I think they do good work, the new law is written in a way that invites ridicule and that seems designed to favor the politically connected. Librarians who help people use the library? Cops who can shoot? I think pay for performance is fine but all librarians should help people use the library and all cops should be able to shoot.

Pension spiking are things done at the end of a career to boost the final years salaries for pension computing. Incentives and other things done at any stage of a career are not spiking. What you are raising is a question of what should constitute the salary base for pension credit at any career stage.
