When I reached 60, I hoped never to celebrate a birthday again.
However that was not meant to be as others like to remind me.
How do you feel about elder birthdays? Celebrate or not?

There is still something to be said for presents. Especially since at this age people have run out of ideas and give gift cards so you can get whatever you want. If anything, it's a nice reminder that you are still here after another year. Better than reading the obituaries every day to make sure your name is not there.
Don't know what age has to do with birthdays. Do I celebrate them- sure do- my birthday twice.
First is small family birthday- just me, DH & the two of the three kids who live nearby. Depending on our mood, we either stay in or go out to dinner. DH gets me a gift as I do him. I start reminding him a month ahead of time. Or I pick it out, tell him " that's my gift" and he gets it for me. Kids told to forego gifts although they'll show up with flowers for me.
Second celebration is with two best female friends. We exchange really cheap " gag" gifts for each person's birthday. Then we either go out to eat and treat our ourselves to a gooey desert which we would otherwise never order. Or we stay in and bake a death by chocolate cake. Dark chocolate cake, with strawberry & ganache filling, dark chocolate icing topped with strawberries.
Life is meant to be enjoyed - sure I'm getting older- so what. Celebrate or not, still going to be a year older, might as well have fun
I like the German custom and follow that as much as possible.
A birthday is a celebration of living, one more year lived and life to go. The birthday man/woman throws a party and invites friends and family to share in the celebration of being alive. No presents. Champagne/sect/wine abound. It is just a happy party where people celebrate life and living (two different things).
No! I'm such an old Scrooge at my age of 66! My wife and I with a few select friends just go out for lunch or dinner and that's it, except for maybe some cake and ice cream with coffee after lunch or dinner!
Celebrate! Each one is a milestone and means I haven't achieved room temperature yet.
We think alike.
After suffering a major illness in my forties, my wife threw me a "50th birthday" party at my cousin's restaurant. I had a blast although we specially requested NO GIFTS.
I had one younger cousin who has thrown one every year since ...
I view every birthday as an accomplishment!
