You are certainly not an idiot, PAhippo. I was wondering the same thing. And thanks for the answer, Flyonpa. I sometimes wish we would all remember to refrain from using abbreviations or slang which are commonly known in a particular region of the country, but may be much less commonly known thousands of miles away. I am not claiming that I have never fallen into that trap myself, just sayin'....

Here's an example: Recently in the Great Debates Forum there was a thread about impatient drivers in which the term "breakdown lane" was used. From the context I concluded it probably meant the shoulder of the road; even though I asked, no one chose to enlighten me. (We do not use that term in California).

From the other direction, we in California use the term "freeways" when many people in the rest of the country would use "interstates", perhaps because many of our limited-access highways are not numbered interstates. However, I think most everyone understands what freeways are.

Regionalisms are interesting. In southern Louisiana "skiing" means water skiing, and if they want to say skiing, they say "snow skiing".

Default Yes, "R" day is one of life's memorable days!

So thoughts before going in to the office...

As a contractor, i never have been sad about leaving a job. It is just part of the ebb and flow of that kind of life. But I think this one will feel different; both because it is the last one and because this is one of the best jobs I have worked in the last 20 years. But the freedom will certainly taste good enough to make up for any sadness......
Yes, "R" day may be sweet, bitter, or bitter-sweet, but it is one of life's memorable days. Mine was bitter-sweet after 34 years of ups and downs with the same employer, but I counted a number of friends among the attendees at the luncheon. One supervisor whom I liked and respected had some nice things to say, and his boss, whom I couldn't stand, was mercifully brief.

Other days which will stand out forever in my memory, in reverse order: My mother's funeral, my father's funeral, my wedding, my first solo flight during pilot training, and picking up my brand new Triumph TR250 convertible sports car at the Triumph factory in England at age 23 or 24. (Never again was I that excited about buying a car.)
