It's not a prison. We are free to go outside the boundaries of the community and wander anywhere we please.
No, it's not that. It's the general environment I have encountered when visiting friends in the 55+ places. Maybe it's more lively where you live, but in New England, they're generally mostly staid/boring places with activities that congregate elders. I interact with some of these communities in contracting them for event sponsorships, group rates to off-site concerts, and bringing in on-site events (concerts, etc). The demographics are almost always weighted toward the less lively. I'm not saying others wouldn't enjoy this choice. When I think of wanting to feel young, I think of other options, though I do remember you saying a while back that your community isn't the typical 55+ (typical to up here).

Smile The over 55 communities

I think the weather has an impact. Here, in Florida, more people enjoy being outdoors and those activities so you see more outdoor things going on.

There's an over 55 community about 20 minutes north of us. They broke ground for Phase 1 (380 homes) back in March (sold out in 2 weeks), now Phase 2 has just opened up (just saw the advertisement!) - they are promoting all sorts of activities.

I personally don't think we'd fit in there right now.

However, there is definitely a market for this housing and it seems to be going fast.

That is so funny that you mentioned the Tilt A Whirl. My sister just went to a fair and watched as the children rode it but she didn't get on. I loved the Tilt A Whirl.

I felt something change in me while singing and dancing to Bob Seger. This is the first time since I was that young girl that I am totally FREE. I want to make the most of it. I want to feel what that free young girl felt way back when. I want to let my hair go gray and long and flowing and wear paisley blouses and colorful beads. I want to paint and dance and be around animals. I want to live again, not just go through the motions of life but really enjoy it.
Then, my friend, you should do ALL those things you want to do. Go for it, we're cheering you on!!!

Thank you,
I am no longer dying my hair but letting it go gray. The paisley blouses and colorful beads are next.

Old joke ...
When she saw her first strands of grey hair she thought she'd dye.

My gray looks like it might be pretty. It is silvery. My mother had beautiful silver hair.

That will attract a certain type of guy, if that's what you're looking for. He'll probably have beads on too, lol.

Some women look great gray, I definitely would not. My friends who are former brunettes look good gray; those who had blonde or red hair don't for some reason. I'm among the latter. Are you going long or curly short?

I am no longer interested in romantic relationships. I have had more than my share of romance. I enjoy being single and spending time with friends and my fur family. I am very comfortable being "alone".

I have long hair. When I was young it was almost black. The trick to looking young is to try and keep your weight down. Short hair can age you if you don't choose the right style. Long hair can age you too. Once my hair turns gray, I will see how it looks. I can always add a few highlights.

My DIL's mother is just turning 60 and she has long straight hair that she's let go gray. She adds subtle interesting light blonde (not platinum) highlights. Certain faces look good in long hair, hers does, others don't. I have to laugh at myself that I have the same medium hair length, style and color as I did in high school. I'm gray in just a few spots, so I color those to match. I would not look good at all gray.

I agree about the clothing. Certain kinds of clothes make me feel young or old and frumpy. Many of us had to dress a certain way for work and now that those days are past we can experiment. One kind of clothing popular with women our age really turns me off, personally...the baggy flowing pants and long shawl-like configurations. Whatever happened to the waistline under all that. I would love to drop a few more pounds to be able to wear the colored wide leather belt that has come back in style. I've started to wear stretch leggings with a skirt and short jacket, now all I need is the belt, lol.
