I am interested to hear how you will handle your finances without a trustee. I am also childless and someday I may find myself widowed and failing mentally.

Congratulations. I would also agree that the Retirement and Investing forums here at CD can be very helpful. With the large aging boomer population you would think that it would be easy to get honest and helpful retirement, financial and estate planning help. Clearly that is not the case but it sounds like you have making progress.

LOL, LaF, now we will all be asking for your guidance and advice! Be careful who you thank!

It is very encouraging that we can all learn from our fellow CDers!

The reason he hesitated is because, unlike most, my plan has to take into account that I will be alone. It is a plan for being widowed and having no living children or relatives and having friends as old as I am. That means I need to have figured out how monthly income can be accrued and expenses paid in the event my thinking isn't clear. I could hire a trustee, but that could cost a lot of money and I might not have enough assets for a trustee to want to work with me. In the end, I think what I have set up will work. But I need someone with the proper software and knowledge to test it for me.

Thank you for posting this. I too will be a single woman going into retirement (hopefully someday), with no kids, no spouse, no family, no really close friends.

I have a meeting in two months with a CPA (husband of a co-worker) to look over my investments, etc. and see if I'm on track or way out in left field.

Red on The Noodle, I knew I simply could not be the only one in this situation. Best wishes for good results from your CPA.
