Mom mentioned she wanted to clear out a few mugs, to make room for the nice, big ones that came with her new plates. I said it's too cold and icy outside to do anything with Christmas decorations, so why not clear the mugs?

She chose nine mugs to donate, which leaves just enough room for the eight new mugs. I immediately packed them into a box and hauled them out to my pickup. When the ice melts, I'll finish loading the other donations and get 'em out of here before she changes her mind.

One shelf or drawer every few days is about all I can get her to do, but it's still progress.

Washed and dried all my canning jars. Do not see canning in my future. It was fun for the few summers I did it, but done with that hobby now. Will give them away. In the car ready to be dropped off.

She decided to dump some old magazines stored in a closet. Soon as the trash collector empties the dumpster (full of storm debris), I'll toss 'em. I can now walk into that closet without stumbling over them.

Every little bit is progress.

We have garbage pickup twice a week, and after we throw out the daily garbage, I fill the rest of the can with old stuff from all of the nooks and crannies of our home. Over the past month, I have thrown out tons of old VHS tapes I had recorded over the years that were caught hiding under the bed and in the closets. I also had the daunting task of going through all of the old fabric I had been keeping for projects that I just don't want to do anymore. Good stuff is being kept in a corner of the spare room closet for donation. Although it seems like I'm only getting rid of a little at a time, it is surprising to see how empty the closets, etc. are looking now that I'm digging in and am consistent. I love it, it's so freeing!

I have realized that the majority of my drawers and closets are FILLED with stuff given to me over the years by my Mom -- who is in truth a hoarder of sorts. She would go to consigment shops and flea markets and buy "good stuff" and then pass it on to us (her daughters). I always felt bad because this stuff was from my Mom until I realized it had no sentimental value -- was just "STUFF that she bought for some weird emotional pleasure. Now it goes out the door right after she gvies me anything -- I say thank you -- I take it upstairs and put it in a box to give away. Every week for the last several months I have had at least 4 or5 bags or boxes for Value Village.

I did clean out my own kitchen drawers, however, and got rid of alot of my old broken down utensils and beat up stuff. Feels great.

I actually un downsized today. I found a perfectly good set of flannel sheets dh had put in the PTA thrift shop pile. Even if we don't use them as sheets they would come in handy for....something! That is my big problem. I hate to get rid of something and then wish I hadn't.

Today was chairs to the curb day. Out went my very old lumpy recliner, two wicker rockers from the porch that needed too much work, and an old computer chair that was bursting at the seams.

Also threw out my mother's collection of very old hair permanent rods/curlers, which I'm sure some of you ladies may also remember with a shudder.

... On a slightly-different 'tack', I've down-sized about 2 or 3 pounds (Lb's) since the New Year! ...
Workin'-out at the company gym does wonders!
