Well, let's see now. I'm 71 years old now. I retired in 2005 at the age of 61 but downsizing happened to me about 2007. I just figured it was part of growing old.
Maybe part of growing up.
Realizing it's not about stuff.
Maybe the memories associated with the stuff. They can be saved in other ways. Just not the stuff itself.

Naw, I've been talking about being rid of this plague of bears for several months now.
We have about $1k worth of bears with value over $10. Problem is, the market for them is on ebay and I'm not sure I'd get involved with ebay for $1k. And DH can't do it because one day, out of the blue, they claimed he made some ugly complaint (he hadn't) and banned him. Refused to even listen when he tried to explain that he had made no such complaint. Weird - just weird!. Which is another reason I don't really want anything to do with ebay.

How about donating them to a nonprofit fundraiser? You'd get a tax writeoff and they'd go for a nice benefit.
Cleared up drawer space. We only reach for 2 or 3 knives, so I put the others away. Same with the cooking spatulas, tongs, spoons etc. Wrapped them up neatly and put them away in an unused drawer.
I like everything to be spaced and orderly. We used to have foam cutouts for our tools when I was in the Air Force. I try to give the same look to my kitchen tools. But it had gotten out of hand recently.

We don't itemize, so we never get a writeoff for our donation. But, I do like that idea. How would I go about finding a nonprofit fundraiser? (I'm not terribly thrilled about giving them to Goodwill or Salvation Army because they are too much about religion, but it may come to that.)
