I was first widowed at age 38. I remarried 4 years later and had a wonderful 12 years with a beautiful man. He passed away 17 months ago at age 48. I am now 54 with 3 school age children. I would love to be in a relationship again - and would consider a third marriage with the right person. For me, being alone is lonely.

I am 61 and have been happily married for 30 years, and if I were widowed, there is no way I would want to marry again, either. It just wouldn't be fair to any possible future spouse because after having experienced as perfect a marriage as I could possibly imagine, he would definitely come up short.

Are my mother and I unusual? Or do most of you feel the same way?
I remarried at 50. Now I'm almost 69. Were my wife to predecease me would I marry again? Not on your life. A good relationship takes a lot of hard work and I don't think I'd be up to it. I decidedly wouldn't marry a widow nor expect one to marry me. I think that would be like living with the ghosts of the past whom you couldn't rival, nor want to.

On further reflection, I might, on paper only, to a friend so my pension survivor benefits wouldn't go to waste.

No not a 3rd time. I think after all that I have learned I would prefer to have just a bed buddy or friend with benefits.

Add a house and you're good to go.

One of my closest friends is on her fourth marriage, and four seems to have been the charm!

First one was crazy, second one had drug issues but straightened up and then dropped dead of a heart attack while in his 40s, third one was drunk and abusive--he's dead, too, but he didn't croak until after she divorced him. Fourth one is easy-going and reliable, has become more of a father to her son than his natural father ever was, and they are passed ten years and seem very happy. I guess there's always hope!

And a driver's license is a good draw, too, from what I hear!
