Once I started working in the Loop, I seldom watched the evening Chicago news. Everything I wanted to hear I could get on the morning news in about 10 minutes! Unfortunately now even WGN and Fox32 are like the evening news channels so I listen more to the radio and its news. I don't understand why sensationalism draws such an audience but that should be a topic for another forum
I do think that, once I relocate, I'll use the net for Chicago local news just so I know what's happening in the Region, but I definitely will want to watch local TV news to understand the area.
Tell ya what: didn't matter where I lived in the country, if I could see Tom Skilling's weather report on WGN, I was set. Got better weather predictions from him in Chicago, than any bumpkin could give me anywhere I lived. . .

Other than a few newscasters on the Knoxville stations, I am not impressed...I MISS my Detroit news people....We try to watch the news to find out things going on in the area.... and many times we just skip it..
I personally like my local news as that is what I am more interested in. Its more straight news reporting without the so called journalistic bias :IMO.
I think that it should be against the law to call what TV story readers do "News". There is nothing but fluff and feel good stories. And I'll have to disagree that Chicago TV is good. Take ABC @ 6:00 for instance. Cheryl Burton is as pretty as can be but can't say a sentence without a grin on her face. Then if the story is a bit tragic, the big frown comes across. And if you want Tom (Bobble head) Skilling, take him, by the time he gets done spouting off a million uninteresting facts and figures and shows 10-12 pictures of nothing sent in by the viewers, you forget what the weather is going to be. Take that story about the woman on the plane poking the snoring guy, ABC actually sent someone out to the airport to stand there and use up 3-4 minutes of time over a nothing story. They couldn't do it without Ohare in the background. I think all TV reporting is garbage, if it has a video, it gets on, if not forget it.
I miss some of the local newscasters from back home. These people had been there for many years and were fixtures of the community. Here in Indy, the atmosphere seems much more transient.
When using my son's timeshare, I actually enjoyed watching Springfield MO local news while at Branson or watching Knoxville local news while at either Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg.
I also especially liked the commercials on Knoxville TV for car dealers and lawyers.
Some were very good and I still remember them some 4 years later.
I am from Chicago area too and remember Walter Jacobsen and Bill Curtis so so long ago.
Phoenix news is totally boring. Every AM it starts out with where the shooting was in the avenues. The next thing is how high the temperature will be and then 5 commercials. And the weather ladies need to go shopping for new outfits. It's dress week at Ross. I guess they don't know.
