From Forbes - "What to do with a retired husband: Chapter 1 of 3", by Robert Laura. Published on-line at 0800 this morning.

What To Do With A Retired Husband: Chapter 1 of 3 - Forbes

brief quote:

Quote:
“Okay,” I said, “I’m glad you did”, which is when the look on her face shifted from anger to pain. We briefly lost eye-contact as she glanced down. When she looked back up she shared, “My husband should have been here! I’m so sick and tired of him sitting around the house all day doing nothing… I didn’t sign up for this and he needs to get his retirement figured out… but of course he wouldn’t come, doesn’t do anything I ask and I’m sure he is still just sitting there on the couch with the BLARING TV.”
I've seen this subject come up several times in my readings of this sub-forum. I look forward to chapters 2 and 3.

Why sit around the house all day when they could be having sex? Isn't that why God invented Viagra?

My wife met a retired couple that did nothing but watch Fox News all day long and get all riled up and angry about "those people."

I'd rather be dead.

Leave the poor man ALONE. He deserves some time off after supporting his family all those years. Why is it accepted for a woman to sit home all day and nothing is said. A man sits home after retirement and the wife wants to nag him into finding something to do or getting a part time job! What's wrong with that picture? Equal rights? Don't think so.. If your wife who never contributed to the family income sits home watching tv. Nag her for a change!

Why would you assume that the wife stayed home and watched TV all day? My Mom was a SAHM, raised six kids, kept a spotless house, had a full dinner on the table every night of the week...need I go on? When the youngest went off to high school, she got a part-time job at a local fast food establishment. After my Dad retired, he was "lonely" while she was at work...he convinced her to quit her job, even though she really liked working.

That is what my parents do and they are in their mid eighties. I never need to watch the news I get it all from my parents. I just lay on the floor with the phone to my ear and hear all the horrible things happening in the world.

The poster you quoted recommended people have sex all day because that's what Viagra was invented for..... then you say that's what your parents do...... then you say they watch the news, etc.

So which was it? They have sex all day or watch the news and complain?

Just make sure it's a rescue Dogs are a great way to get someone off the sofa. We have two and a 9 month old kitten. John has been retired for nearly two years now and my evil plan to keep him moving hatched long before he retired. Unfortunately I'm part of that being active plan and I still work nearly full time. I think I'm off the sofa way more then he is at this point.
