They share the same wording because MadManofBethesda decided to create a spoof, or a parody, of this thread. Those of us familiar with his postings know that it was very much in character for him.

There's only one way to end up with a million dollars from gambling.....

Start with 2 million.

Nobody has ever won a penny.

Take what you started with out of your winnings and only continue to play with the 'profit'.
If you lose that, you're done for that session.
You've had some free entertainment.
If you want to come out ahead, take your starter out plus a little.
As yellowsnow talked about, with freebies that you might have paid for, you may still come out ahead even if you didn't. (Did ya' get that?

I'd be bored too. You need to take in the atmosphere of a place like Las Vegas for some fun/excitement, gambling not required.

I used to go more but there are no casinos in TN. If I take the bus to NC, my town is the first stop going and the last stop coming back and that makes the ride really long which is not good for my legs. The bus comes once every other week. I have gone once in the last year. Sometimes the day of the week conflicts with my classes. Sometimes when I am on vacation I'll look for one.

The last time, I won quite a bit.

No way I would thow my money away like that, just to pay more taxes or to fund a casino.
Yes, "up to". They call them sucker bets. Play at the craps table on the pass line with odds and in the long run, you'll be down 0.6% on just the bets alone. Play it smart with such bets, enjoy some free drinks at the table, some other comped items, and you will be ahead in the long run and be entertained if that's your thing.

Great article! It shows that if you play the right games the right way, you can win

While I'm not against gambling per se, I don't care to go to casinos at all. Slot machines and other casino games don't do much for me.

Strategies for gambling are no different for retirees than for anyone else. But in retirement, if you blow your wad on a fixed income, it will take longer to recover. And you can be tempted to sit longer if you don't have to go to work in the morning. Main point, do not chase losses. Go with an entertainment budget amount and leave when that is gone. Leave your ATM card at home. And collect on any freebie going. Repeat.
