That is one thing about 55+. If nothing is available wait a few days.

I wouldn't mind living in a 55+ restricted condo association, but I do not believe I'd want to live in a planned senior community per se. Everyone has their style; from those I've visited, that doesn't appear to be mine.

I just wish the yards weren't so dinky in 55+ communities. It doesn't seem like there would be much privacy when you go outside.

Rothbear - we checked out your community recently. It was very friendly and we liked the vibe there a lot. I loved some of the model homes. We aren't ready too make a move yet but are doing our homework. Two of the residents ended up giving us a brief tour. How friendly is that?

It depends on the community. Some of our houses have large lots and the horse properties are really big.

That wasn't a concern of mine or I wouldn't be living in a condo. I moved here to do things and see people, not to sit at home.

Haven't found it to be a concern, yet. It's different when there aren't kids. A block wall, a hedge, a fence and you're okay. No footballs, baseballs, etc coming over. No screaming kids. Nice and quiet.

I do not live in one YET. My wife and I are going to go visit one later this month and when I retire next summer I expect we will settle in one. The reasons?
plenty of activities like golf, fishing, boating, cards, clubs, tennis etc
plenty of opportunities to meet people and form friendships
not as much worry about people breaking in a stealing stuff (gated community)
plus (this is only partially tongue in cheek) in a 55+ community your friends can't all die off because new ones are moving in all the time

I think we have the best of spots here in Sun City. Our yard is too big in my opinion, but at least I have elbow room. In one of the newer, more upscale developments here, you could wash each other's windows the homes and yards so close and tiny. No fencing in those tiny yards makes it feel even more intrusive into your privacy.
