The only thing that I know for sure is, now that I am retired, I want to move out of Florida. I want to live in a safe place, not in a big city, not near heavy traffic, not where temperatures are above 90° much in the summer, away from either coast. I've had my share of hurricanes and daily thunderstorms. I want to live in a non-Hispanic area. I want to downsize and live in a relatively low COL area. My only relative is my sister.... and her husband who live in southern California. I re-visited my hometown, in north central Indiana this spring. I found it to be too busy, too polluted (lots of industry in the area) and too much crime. I am so tired of high humidity and want to return to a four season area. I don't have a clue as to where I would move.

So then you'd be looking at CA or the SW states. I would imagine that would be a huge jump in many ways from where you are now. Why not just try out several locations for a few months at a time? A realtor in your chosen locations could set you up for sublets. It would be a nice way to experience the broad country.

I like snow, but I haven't experienced much in the last 40 years. Since I am retired, I don't have to drive to work every day - or anyplace else, for that matter. I do love the seasons. I grew up in IN.
I live in a very small town, where my mom grew up & haven't seen anyone but Scandinavians. There is a disadvantage though. There is no grocery store here, I have to drive 9 miles to the nearest town so I really have to plan for what I need. We definetly have four seasons. We usually have 1 week of very hot weather, otherwise it's pleasant & winter can vary. It's been totally unpredictable for the last few years. Last year we were worried there wouldn't be snow for Christmas but we did & by March we were thinking winter would never end.
Hmmm... lots of places in PA that seem like they'd be a fit (I personally want a little "more" things around) - but if you Google senior living PA there are lots of places in the Lebanon area - which really isn't too bad (I know folks there as my late husband grew up there). Just spend some time doing research.

Maybe some town in Wyoming? Little humidity, lots of small towns, safe, etc.
Gad, I sound so prejudiced I currently live in an area nearly 80% Hispanic. I meant the majority native (?) born Americans.
Weren't the Spanish the first to discover Florida? Ponce de Leon?
