If I could take the choice, i'd give up the computer, smartphone, MiFi, etc....i'd have a Princess phone at home and that's it. If I don't answer the phone, call back laterrrrrrrrrrr
(Disclaimer: i'm in IT and my position is an "always on" mode which i'm tired of LOL)

Yeh, well you aren't retired then. So does that count?
101 votes in the poll as I type this. And so far voters value their cars more than their computers, by a substantial margin. Interesting. Only 19% were too torn to make the choice - fewer than I would have suspected. The responses provide an interesting window on people's lives and circumstances. Thanks to all who responded and to all who will probably still respond.

I picked car. The world is no longer kind to the computer-less and this will only become more true with passing time (at least, until the Russians and Chinese wipe out the grid and all the CMOS chips with EMP).
This is a nonsense poll. A computer is so cheap these days that it just about comes as a prize in your cereal box. A car costs many thousands of dollars per year to operate between purchase price, insurance, taxes, registration, inspection, maintenance, and fuel.

I don't think the purpose of the poll is to compare the R.O.Is. The hypothetical choice was to understand what is more important to a person in retirement: physical transportation vs. virtual or mind transportation? Of course it is much cheaper and easier to own a mode of virtual transportation than a physical one.
The only fault with the poll which was already pointed out was that it should have made clear that computer category includes not only desktop, laptop but also tablet, ipad, iphone, smart phones. If it was stated that way, I think the number of people who chose to forego cars instead of 'computers' would have been lower.
I think the choice in the poll reflects not only the posters' age (the older set had less exposure to 'computers') but also their locations (urban dwellers are less dependent on cars), their activities in retirement and maybe even their personalities (extroverts vs introverts as pointed out by a poster).
I think that it was an interesting poll with many illuminating answers.
