Being able to go fishing on a Tuesday. Having an adult beverage at lunch. Oh and no one is trying to kill me.

After five days off for minor surgery, I imagined how it would be in 189 work days, oh the joy!

Torture coming back to the office today.

Idiocy.

Yes, being able to have a beer with lunch is a very nice, if minor, aspect of retirement.

I like the freedom. There were so many thing we wanted to do that were impossible before retiring because of work constraints on our time.

After lunch naps ain't bad either!

pleasant aspects of retirement

Having the time to stop and change a flat tire for an 'elderly' person

Enjoying the pristine view from your home (which you may have missed for yrs due to being stuck at WORK!)

Curmudgeon, thank you for starting this thread. I think we needed a counter-balance to all the negativity and grumpiness!

I think just about everything about retirement is pleasant. Like the OP, I love not being in a hurry. Other drivers cut in front of me? No problem. Waiting in line? No problem. I also love being able to shop on weekdays and off hours, although I did that anyway due to shift work. But then it wasn't by choice, and that makes all the difference.

I used to look forward to finally getting weekends off, but like the OP I prefer to spend them relaxing at home. One thing I particularly enjoy after 25 years of working swing shift is being able to watch the sun go down over the Pacific Ocean from the deck in back of our house. It's a free show, and it's different every night. I also love being able to stay home on Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. I used to almost always have to work on those holidays.

My pleasure! I really dislike "Chicken Little" threads.
