To: cb2008: I was writing you a rep comment which got sent in error before I was finished typing it. So, if it was incoherent, I'm sorry.

Mid-50s military retire. Organic farmer, pig breeder, beekeeper and more. I am into cooking, brewing beer/cider. I live in a 'net-zero' home I designed and built myself. I am active in church, grange and fraternity. I live in dense forest where I enjoy hiking and foraging wild crops, kayaking, snow-shoeing and watching the eagles fly over head. Financially stable, non-smoker though not judgmental, moderate drinker. I have dogs and cats. I enjoy children. I am not into team sports. I like classic rock, Country and Western.

I am interested in finding an intelligent lady, who is not high maintenance. I don't mind doing laundry though it would be an added bonus if she is a good seamstress. She must have her own ATV, snow sled or tractor. Please send picture of ATV, sled or tractor.

Country music has not been called 'country and western music' for at least 25 to 30 years or more.

I think I just did.

Besides I like both kinds of music. I like Country music and I like Western music.

I still use the term "country & western" but read this little tidbit on the CMT Nashville Skyline website:

"The term “country & western” was used in the heyday of the singing cowboys and Western swing and is now only used by people who don’t know any better."

Guess that is me although I've listened to this music since 1970! I always considered singers like George Strait to sound more western than country.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before the inevitable nit-picking criticisms of people's profiles appeared. If someone used an out-of-date term for something, that is part of his or her profile, for sure! The idea of the thread, if I understood it correctly, was to present ourselves. But public internet forums being what they are, we should not be too surprised to see our presentations dissected.

At our age, not all of us are interested in jumping on the latest bandwagon of hip and/or politically correct terminology anyway. I still use the term "mentally retarded", for example, and I don't care if that marks me as somewhat old-fashioned. Our basic vocabulary is deeply embedded by many years of usage and I see nothing wrong with that.
