Ive have 2 dogs right now. They have never seen a kennel and never will. They are just one more reason why I will never travel, I can't even imagine dropping them off with strangers, not to mention I would never trust anyone with them. People never take care of your animals like you do. I even have an app on my phone where I can watch them in my house during the day.

Theres nowhere on the face of this earth that I need to be more than I need to be home with them.

We're still traveling--we love it! but are finding ourselves more drawn to domestic trvel....either csr trips or short hops on a plane.

Why?

Foreign travel, in addition to being so pricey for the airfare--is just exhausting for me...sitting in a cramped seat and going through all the security is tiring and zero fun...but yet, if airfare to Europe and other far-flung parts of the world fit our budget, I've a long bucket list of places I'd love visiting...

We are seeing more and more of our friends doing small ship cruises both domestic (and also abroad...)

We're fortunate that North America has so much diversity and beauty to explore! Hawaii, Alaska, Grand Tetons British Columbia--oh my!

You have chosen, of your own free will, to be a prisoner of your two dogs, a choice which is totally incomprehensible to me. Of course some of my choices may be totally incomprehensible to you. I support freedom of choice - including the right to choose freedom or choose prison.

I respect your choice. We love our dog AND do take her to the kennels while we are on vacation.

I try not to drop off our dog with strangers so we always try to use the same kennel. If we have to use a new kennel, we take her for a visit to see how she likes it before taking her there.

People may not take care of your animals EXACTLY like you do but this does not mean your animals don't have good care while staying in a kennel. Most if not all the people who own or work in a kennel that we have known are animal lovers. Animal lovers treat all animals as well as they treat their own pets.

If anything, our dog Maggie seems to enjoy occasional kennel stays and absolutely loves the kennel owner. Her stay is like a 'vacation' to her as well.

I can not help but think that there are similarities between the reasons why people don't use a kennel and why some mothers don't use daycare and prefer being SAHM. I was a working mother all my working life and respect both working mothers and SAHM. In my family, there are people who take vacation leaving their pets in kennels (like us), people who always bring their pets along while travel, people who like you never travel because of their pets etc. It's individual choice and I am fine with it as long as people don't apply their criteria to judge others.

Pretty hilarious. In order to be a prisoner, you have to be held against your will. I traveled all my life, having owned no dogs. Im done with traveling. Now i can have my dogs...and horses...and chickens...and a 10 acre farm...a be within an hours drive of the beach....and Disney. So no, "prisoner" is hardly a description of my life.

I leave my dogs at the vet. They also board. Feel more secure knowing that medical help is right there if needed.

I left my cat at her vet's (they also board) and when I brought her home she was very sick. She had to go back for an antibiotic shot. The vet wasn't pleased (not at me or my cat, more his staff who weren't as careful as they could have been). My girl's treatment for her illness was, of course, free of charge.

We left our dog at a vet clinic's kennel once and did not it a bit. The clinic kept the dogs in indoor cages. Although they do have workers to walk the dog in the fenced outside yard twice a day, we don't think our dog likes to be caged.

At the current kennel, the dogs are kept in roomy sections with indoor and outdoor areas so they can go out to enjoy the fresh air and sun whenever they want. The fact that the dog has a lot of room to move around makes a big different.

We use to have to vacation close by because of not having time to go further. Now I realize how lucky we were we didn't have more time. Yes, best travel is by car to a timeshare that is one day away. Most of the timeshares are basically the same when you get there anyway. Our favorites are Westwinds at Myrtle Beach in the Spring or December and Fairfield Mountains in October or May.
