I was a closet atheist for years. My mother is very religious, and I have several close friends with strong faith. It really freaks religious people out.
I am now a Pastafarian. It's a lot more fun than being an atheist. It's the most peaceful religion and there's no dogma. We also have the best holidays. The Flying Spaghetti Monster has touched me with his noodly appendage! R'Amen!
I am past that age by almost thirteen years, and I do not believe in a god; and except for two cousins, no one I know above sixty-five in the U.S. or here in Europe believes in one either. I do know a few who follow Buddhism, but it is the Theravadan branch and god doesn't enter into it.
I have met very few people at that age who are agnostic or atheist. I am personally an agnostic and don't believe in any religion.
Is your belief in God and religion stronger now that you are older? Any Atheists or agnostics here?
Absolutely not. As the years have gone by(I'm 66) I've lost just about all the interest I had in organized religion. I'm not an atheist but pretty close to being an agnostic.
I haven't been to church on a regular basis in almost 40 years.
My faith in God and basic beliefs remain strong. With study I find a new and deeper appreciation of the words and meaning in the Bible. I love the PBS/History Channel presentations on a religious subject. So no I have not become more atheist or agnostic.
But, I tire of my denomination and maybe the dogma. I have tried visiting other churches but don't care for them anymore than my own. I hate rituals and that is where a good service can lose me. Basically I am tired of most practices of religions.
Basically separating faith and belief where I am strong and religion where I am so so about it works for me
God is not separate from us. "God" is Gratitude, God is Love. I woke up today feeling very close to God. It was an almost tangible sense of gratitude. In my world, God does not grant wishes or make things better or worse. God is.
I've been a Christian since my college days. I was not raised in church. My faith has remained constant.
I believe that many people, who are now agnostic or atheists and were church goers may well have attended due to societal reasons. And not due to belief. As they got older they realized this and here we are. As I got older I came to understand the concept of free will. We all have the right to follow (or not) a belief in God.
