Yes I have. Many times. Mostly, it's been a good thing with a happy reunion!

I have and I decided not to friend request them. It's been too long and explaining my life is simply too exhausting.

Connected with my best friend from grade school on FB, a bunch of people from high school, a bunch of people from my college years. Also, my former stepdaughter, my niece and nephews. All the former coworkers I've connected with have been on LinkedIn.

A year or two ago I decided to give in and get a Facebook page. After it was set up, it suggests random people that you might want to have as friends. I wasn't surprised that it came up with my ex-Wife, since we do email about our son and everybody knows that email is virtually public today. However, it also suggested a friend of a friend who I took sailing in a group years before and, most shockingly, a guy who lived in my apartment building almost 40 years ago. I had not had any recent contact with the latter two. It creeped me out so bad that I immediately canceled the account. Big Brother has nothing on these guys.

Yes, it is nice to trade a message or three with old friends. But thats happening less and less as I think the people who are going to use Facebook are now using it.

Ive used it less last year as I was watching it too much.

I've had the same experience. The "people you may know" section freaks me out. I've seen people who have absolutely no connection to me appear as recommended friends. Reminds me of on-line dating. Creepy as heck!

I had an ol' school buddy who joined the Marines after HS, lost contact with him, then the Marine Barracks in Beirut had a suicide bomber drive in back in 1983, and I heard that he passed in that bombing......then a few months ago, found him on FB.....said he was listed MIA / KIA for a few weeks before they were able to account for everybody.

Several old friends have found me on Facebook. However I don't have a popular last name. I would say there are less then 1000 people in the US with the same last name.

Not anyone I would consider "long lost." I've reconnected with some high school and college classmates but none of it was really exceptional.

I have had people from high school send me friend requests. I always decline. One lived a mile away but they waited until I moved 2000 miles away to contact me? The people I wanted to stay in contact with I have stayed in contact with. No need to friend a high school friend I haven't seen in over 40 years.
