Go to NY for a visit, an open ended visit. Take enough stuff or slowly put stuff in storage until you go just in case. Then, go and keep an open mind. Really think about life on your own - doesn't have to be NY but close enough to your family.

Once there, I'd try to forget the BF for a while and really get to know yourself and just concentrate on being with your family.

You will never know unless you do it. At that point, the BF's true colors may start to show up.

With your supporting him even a little bit, he should be grateful for your love and patience and be following you like a puppy dog.

He is keeping you isolated for a reason. Don't buy into it.

I moved back to NY. Time will tell if I made the right decision. Thank you for your thoughts on the matter.

Good for you!

And moreover, that was pretty quick. I'm sure you know many people waffle and waffle and waffle on these boards asking the same thing for months and months (and sometimes years).

You asked (which can be hard to do when your environment, ie bf, is pulling you otherwise). You thought. You took action. Right on and best of luck to you.
