Second, few people receive paper checks anymore; SS has been trying to convert everybody to electronic deposit for years now. Third, why would someone go out because it's their monthly payday (whether paper check or electronic). What is the connection between getting paid and going out?

If it was a joke, sorry, but I don't get the joke very well either. Perhaps I am extra dense today!

I "get it" but probably because I work in retail. Yes, the checks come out at different times of the month but it does seem like the first week of the month is extra busy...SS, Disability, food stamps, etc. that come out at the same time but none of those are all at once either. My mom only went shopping and bill paying the 3rd of every month, along with what seemed like everyone else at the same time. The "joke" is that if you don't want to spend an hour in line DON'T go the first week of the month! Since all sorts of checks and food stamps come out at different times we are pretty much ALWAYS crazy busy but the first week of the month always seems a lot busier.

No... weekends no longer exist. We don't have a lot to do on Tuesday, so Tuesday is the new Saturday.
