Hi there,

I'm looking for someone who has retired from California to Florida and has a pension with vested health benefits through CalPers (i.e. a former Calif state employee). I'd like to hear about your experience with health insurance in Florida. Do you have a PPO? How are the rates and coverage, in relation to what CalPers sets and provides? Thanks

I have CalPERS and when I lived in Nevada there was only one plan for "out of state", it was an Anthem PPO. Does CalPERS give you more than one option in Florida?

CalPERS plan for out of state (PERS Choice or PERS Care) is Anthem Blue Cross PPO, or if you are in a state where Kaiser exists and you live in certain zip codes you could get Kaiser HMO. I don't believe they have Kaiser in FL. Blue Cross is widely accepted throughout the country.

For details please go to the CalPERS website.
