My parents drove here to Indiana from Tennessee to see me this weekend. They brought me a lot of little items - some scented candles, car cleaning supplies, extra Tupperware - inexpensive, but practical items. When I come home, I bring frozen meat from local farmer's markets (much better than what you find in Tennessee), tools for dad, and a household item or two from Macy's for mom.
If you live a long way from your children, what, if anything, do you bring them when you see them? And vice versa?
We don't take anything unless it has been requested and we usually stay at their home or we are camping. Usually the only thing requested is the ingredients for me to make macaroni and cheese ( I created the cheese sauce myself)
Depends on your family and where they or you live. When I moved away from the SF Bay Area and my family still lived there, whenever they'd come visit I'd ask them to bring me sourdough bread. That was way back before you could pretty much buy anything anywhere.
They also used to send me Sees candies, which are the best chocolates/candy you've ever tasted, which are only available on the west coast.
Even when my daughter lived close by, I'd bring her things I knew she liked and didn't normally splurge on. Expensive tequila, for instance :-)
I would bring my mom unusual food treats that she didn't have access to in rural Missouri. I didn't expect her to bring me anything...but I'd try to send her home with some items too.
My wife was the gift giver, when she died, I have not sent or given gifts. Since I am semi-house bound I don't travel so if they want to see me they will have to come home. I don't expect and certainly don't want anything else to bother with.
When I visit my mother I bring along meals I've prepared to stock her freezer, and books. She no longer drives, so those are things she appreciates. When we visit our own kids, we bring at least one of the many boxes we've been storing in our home for them. Someday, it will all be out.
There's always something special in our bags for our grandson though.
My parents bring me all the crap I left behind when I moved out at age 18. They bring a box or two every time they visit. They saved EVERYTHING from my childhood! They also bring homemade jam and cinnamon bread and sometimes venison sausage. All very much appreciated. When I visit them I bring my 3 kids. Also very much appreciated.
