Could someone tell me what my family benefits should be? I am 62 drawing early not at 62.
My benefit is only $858 at 62 not the full $1138 at 66. The Maximum family benefit is $1822. Social Security is giving my 2 children each $342 for a total of $684. For a total family benefit of $1542.
Shouldn't my children be getting $482 each? Then we would be getting the Maximum family benefit $1822.
They have reduced the Maximum family benefit because I started at 62.
Thank you for the assistance

If your children are under 16, then your wife could probably collect the difference. For me, I collect 2912.00 when the max family benefit is about 3400.00. The difference was that my wife does not collect as she is not a US citizen and does not have a SS#. I believe you can dispute the amount though.

My fiancé will turn 62 in May and will draw $988 Social Security starting in July. Our three-year-old son will draw $655 for being the minor child of a retiree.

Even though you are only collecting $858 presently, for family maximum purposes your full retirement amount is counted. So $1138+684=$1822 which is your family maximum.

Even if your wife were entitled to a benefit it wouldn't make any difference in the total amount your family would receive currently. Once one of the children is too old to collect under you then the wife could possibly receive some money to make up the difference.

Thanks for your answer it explained it better than anyone else. Too bad the Social Security website doesn't explain it that way. Thanks again
