Good health, able to still do medium difficulty hikes in the woods.

Having a smaller house, but more land, close enough to see the kids and grandkids easily, but in a more affordable area.

Lots of outbuilding, at least one big enough for restoring classic cars and other projects.

Continuing to go out to a nice dinner every Friday.

Lots of day trips/2-3 day trips to explore more of the NW states.

Two paid off, late model/low mileage cars and one truck.

More time to spend woodworking, stained glass and bonsai.

Being able to adjust to changes as someone else mentioned. Financial security. Not taking everything so seriously. Relax and enjoy life.

I'm a rather simple person that doesn't feel the need to travel long distances, eat at fancy restaurants and go very often to the theatre. Been there and done that already and don't care if I do more of it.
What I really want when I retire is to live in a nice old house with some character, in a nice old town with low crime, a yard for gardening and a dog. Anything else is ok but not a big deal.
See, I told you I was simple.

This is interesting! We are strongly considering Florida; where are you located and why is it a mess?

Being around like-minded people because life is too short to constantly wear a fake smile.
Good enough health to travel and enjoy life.
Money to travel and enjoy life.

A small university town with a vibrant Osher program and tons of classes.
Four mild seasons and dirt that grows anything in my garden.
A dog park
Friendly people my age interested in talking about stuff.
Green trees, flower beds and lots of grass.
A part time volunteer job helping people.
Houses that don't all look alike.

that's just for starters.

My list resembles some already posted (location, finances, social network, some travel) but above all I like being off the clock. I can stay up until 2 am and sleep late if want. I don't have to be anywhere.

Garden every day if possible. Do some travel because I'm a foodie. Sleep late and exercise more. Try new things. Who knows what else?
