My situation fits NC very well. Certain pensions are not taxed in NC and from a financial stand point it ranks high in my situation. Reasonable cost of living/housing/property tax. I just retired from MD and plan to leave this high tax state in the near future. I had a good paying job in MD, that is why I lived/worked here... but not for retirement.

Retired this year and moved to the Triangle. Cheap housing and property taxes compared to my old state NJ. I would like lower state income tax but when you weigh all the factors in the balance NC seems like a good deal for me. Didn't want the cold/snow and wouldn't think of living out West so this is it for me. Besides most of my kids/grandchildren moved down here so I don't have to deal with that.
