Did that reason for your preferring to be at home begin or intensify as you got older, or was it always present even when you were younger?

reminds me of this...

I am one of those odd people who likes socializing with people I barely know almost more than those I do. I talk to people in line at the store (I read the cues pretty well if they don't want to). One of the reason a community appeals to me is that I will probably be more prone to going to a get together like a card game or pier fishing outing or whatever than I would to stay involved with a circle of friends. I wish that were different, but it's not.

I'm a homebody because I finally have the home of my dreams!!!! I have horses...dogs...a deck on a beautiful mountain river....it's my happy place! it's an 1886 farmhouse and it was love at 1st sight !
Lol...forget about vacations I don't even like going to the next county. I bought it when I was 50 as a vacay home and soon after made it my permanent residence. I'm 62 retired and probably could spend a month at home without getting bored...1 winter I was home for 2 weeks because of snow...woooooohoooooo...as long as I have horse feed dog food and chocolate chip cookies!!! Lol.

I didn't mind other people so much when I was younger, but then I hadn't yet experienced the depth and breadth of stupidity of which people are capable. As I have gotten older, I find that I have less (as in hardly any) tolerance for stupid, selfish, hateful, inconsiderate bozos. Unfortunately, the planet seems to be knee-deep in stupid, selfish, hateful, inconsiderate bozos.

I am blessed with good friends and neighbors who have all raised nice offspring who tolerate me, so I am able to be social and interact with other humans of various ages without having to go out among the bozos or be limited to a small circle of people my own age and level of crochetiness.

Since it is likely that the bozos would consider me undesirable for some unfathomable reason of their own, my staying close to home probably works out best for everyone.

what keeps me home as I get older? Money. Rather the lack of it. If I had more money I would never be home. As I get older I think of all the places or things I probably won't get to see or do because I don't have the money to go.

Yes, there are days I like to be home, on the sofa watching a movie, etc but I'd rather be out somewhere.

I retired a few yrs ago and being home all day is getting old real quick. Working on my resume and will try to get back to work to get out again.

Traffic! I work and do my errands within 10 miles of my home. There is construction going on everywhere in my area, so much so that even the short cuts and back roads I take are backed up because of the road construction going on due to the increased building of homes and strip malls and schools, and the widening of the roads to accommodate the traffic that comes with it. Once I get home I don't go out again for anything until the next day of work. I so enjoy my home that to not go out for a couple days at a time is fine with me.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I can't walk far and I definitely can't stand on my feet long. You don't realize how many activities and events involve both until you can't do them anymore. Take a trip, take a cruise? Nope, too much walking. Go shopping or to the restaurant festival? Same. Cocktail party? Can't stand on my feet. Oh, even sitting in hard chairs or those without lumbar support is a problem. Go to that casual seafood restaurant with picnic tables outside? Forget it. I played cards at my aunt's kitchen table on her hard wooden chairs and was almost crippled the next day. I now have to take a pillow for my back everywhere I go. And at 66, I'm definitely not going scooter. I am lucky that I can still dance, which I do as much as possible. It works because I can dance awhile, sit awhile, dance again, etc.

How great that you have identified a physical activity you can still participate in! That is so much better than just giving up.
