Sometimes people don't realize that pretty scenery as a priority when they already live someplace that is quite scenic. Trust me, if you live someplace like west Texas for a long time, but not growing up here, scenery becomes a priority.
In a word...water. That was #1 on our list and what we wanted to wake up to each morning. We looked in Florida but decided a beautiful, fresh water lake with the Smokey Mountains as a backdrop was about as good as it gets for us. The water, the trees, the mountains is the place where my soul feels free, so yes scenery is important.

West Texas has its own beauty. Traveled thru and lived out there. Spent a few months in Van Horn. Just a blip on I-10, but once you have to stay there, lots of interesting things to see.
What kind of scenery are you looking for? We were talking recently about the North Carolina coast. Very nice.
wow, Burkmere. There are things in life that are more important than money. Some of us have a deep connection to our environment. For me it's my love of the whales, the turtles, the fish and coral reef. I feel very blessed to have been given a second chance in life. Maybe you missed that in my post, but I can tell you for sure that I'll be happy there.

I agree with water--especially safe, plentiful drinking water!! We have a wonderfully beautiful, forested, two acres, on a mountain, with a stream, near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Can't get any better than this for us!!
I would never want to live where the water supply was questionable, or expensive. Beauty has always been a priority, and luckily cost of living is less for us here.
the so called cold winters aren't as cold as they use to be
But they are going to be as cold as they used to be soon. After 4 straight days of 55 degree rainy temps, for the first time in as far back as I can remember, I'm going to have to start the wood stove in the middle of July today. I can't wait until tomorrow when its supposed to get back in the 70's.
Even as a little girl in NYC I'd look out the window and dream of beautiful scenery. I live in the glorious Blue Ridge mountains and I thank God every day...its good for my soul
It's difficult because the peace that I want if probably going to be far from the amenities I want- like a nearby hospital.
I prefer a natural, rural setting, but it is unlikely I will retire in such a place because I need to be near things - I live alone and worry about medical emergencies. The mountains? Hells no.
One of my hobbies is photography so the scenic factor was important. I live in a high desert locale but can be up in the mountain pines in about a half hour.
Where I would be in a heartbeat. I think.
