Because they're bad at math(s)?

I was in AL at the time when the casinos were opening on the shore in Mississippi. All the churches were against it. It happened anyway. Now, when you take a bus trip to the casino, they always start with a prayer.

Who the hell is discussing taxes in this thread? Do you always post non-sequiturs? So far, you're two for two in this thread. I can't wait for your next post in response to a question:

Question: What are the hours of operation of casinos in your area?
David A. Stone: Many casinos don't have clocks so patrons won't know when it is time to leave.
Follow-up: That's interesting, but I was asking what time they open and close.
David A Stone: And they don't have windows either!

Why are there so many older retired people playing slots at casinos?

Because that's where the slot machines are! One could probably ask the same question about any group.

Default Casino Smoking

This means that in South Florida, for example, which has a total of 13 casinos, 10 are completely smoke-free.
I have been in a number of casinos in Biloxi, Tucson, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Shreveport, CA and maybe a few others. Two of those had no smoking areas in the facility. All provided "free" drinks as long as you were sitting down gambling in some form. The comps go to frequent customers which they keep close track of. I think, guess, that those who are "5 star" customers get the free rooms and free food etc. They are treated as VIPs which of course means they are returning customers. At a big casino like Caesar's Palace, they are given special entrances into the shows such as Celine Dion. Why not?

People spend money on hobbies as well as necessities. For my part, my wife and I have raised our children, we have no debt, we have NO interest in seeing Europe again and no interest in traveling elsewhere on the planet so we occasionally gamble. Some of the comments remind me of what was said about "puritans" and their fear that someone, somewhere was enjoying themselves and having a little fun.

Cannot help what others do and what others evidently are addicted to such as food, booze (we do not drink), porn, drugs or whatever.

We like the security at the casinos. Nothing is allowed to go down there. Cameras, security everywhere. As for smoking, or not, we don't have to go. I like the freedom of Las Vegas whether I agree with everything that goes on there or not. I can stay home or I can go but I mind my own business at each location.

Nor should they. An Indian reservation is a sovereign nation not bound by state law.

In the Minnesota casinos is a sign posted that the casino is governed "by the laws of the tribal nation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs."

My biggest problem with the Minnesota Indian casinos is that the rules allow 18 year olds to gamble.

Do you know how SLOW the blackjack game can get when the dealer has to tell the high school kids how much they have inn their hands? Up until that day in Minneapolis two years ago, I THOUGHT that Minnesota had good schools.

Indian casinos don't pay any taxes in California either. The Indians are all billionaires now. They're getting a free ride. Not fair.

Casino's in Connecticut are owned by the Mashantucket Tribal Nation (Foxwood) and Mohegan Tribe (Mohegan Sun). The state collects 25% of their slot machine revenue. In 2010 they had collected over $5 billion in slot revenue...no idea what it is now.

When I visited MGM in Detroit, there was a "non-smoking" area, but it was smack in the middle of the huge room where smoking was allowed, and was open on both sides, essentially a plexiglass "enclosure" with open doors, so the smoke (while less) was still strong. Inside there were slots, but that's it. Not a huge area. Anyway, if I have the opportunity in the future, I'd visit a non-smoking casino just for fun. Glad to hear there are some out there (an earlier poster mentioned Florida as a state that has a number of smoke-free casinos).
