Did you update it to at least indicate that he is no longer living?

YOU apparently have to rep other people first---probably 25 other people.

I updated my listing to note that I am retired. That produced a number of congratulatory messages from old friends and colleagues with whom I was not in regular contact, so it was news to them.

Now it's a way to stay in touch with people I knew through work and don't have other contact with either face to face or through other social media. Limited value, and I'm not sure it's worth the messages from Linked In about jobs I am no longer interested in.

I put "formerly" in front of my title because my replacement now has the title. I subsequently put in the current firm for which I now work part-time. I am not looking for jobs, but because of what I am doing, I often look up other people on linked in because I'm trying to find out who to contact at a company, if there is anyone there that I am already connected to, etc. I find it useful.
