So I was having an issue with the neighbor's dogs barking every morning at 6:00, waking us up out of sound sleep. But they don't seem to bother anyone else here (all "young-ish" retirees) so it got me thinking....they have mentioned in passing that they are up around 6:00 anyway.

Do you all still get up at the crack o' dawn as you did for your jobs? (or kids) Or now in your retirement do you luxuriate by sleeping in, now that you "can".

We always stayed up late, 1 or 2 a.m. due to our jobs, so would sleep in until 9:00 or so. I might have to readjust here due to our natural alarm clock next door. I know sleep patterns change as one ages....less sleep at night, more in the day!

There is no excuse for your neighbor's barking dogs, which is rude in the extreme. However, having said that, I am up by 6:00 a.m. more often than not. (Age 72, retired). Even on days when I do not set the alarm clock, I never sleep beyond 7:30 a.m.; I seem to be constitutionally incapable of it.

There ought to be some body to which you can complain about the noise - the city or your HOA or something similar.

I have never had to get up at the crack of dawn.
I naturally awaken between 7:00 and 7:30, and have for decades.
I don't see that changing.

And if I am sleeping during the day, I am deathly sick.

Curious, what jobs kept you up that late?
Even when I worked second shift (3-11), I was in bed by midnight, 12:30 at the latest.

I'm usually up at 4 AM.

I've been an extreme lark all my life.

Retired 19 years, I get up when I feel like it or as necessary for that days activities. This morning it was 9AM, other days it might be as early as 6:30.

I get up at 5 AM (and feed the feral/outdoor/homeless cats and my indoor cats who feel it's breakfast time).

Between 10 and 11am, make a nice late breakfast, lots of good coffee! Usually don't go to bed before 2am.
