As with anything you purchase, you should get many proposals and talk it over with experts who don't have anything to gain or lose by you getting one. And take your time making the choice, because you are purchasing something, not making an investment.

Annuities

Also, make sure you do retirement planning for expenses. Not what you need to gross a year, but your expenses, because you need to know what you would be dealing with.
Hmm, I haven't paid attention to Suze Orman since I found a glaring legal error in one of her books years ago. She has a good gig going on there, but I prefer to read Pfau and Milevesky.

I'll be annuitizing through TIAA CREF and possibly purchasing an annuity with my TSP funds (the latter depending on the rates). The added benefit is my state will not tax either of those because my SS benefit is about $17,000/year less than the maximum benefit. OTOH, if I move out of the country, I'll have a guaranteed monthly income.

Books can contain errors, but if it's on a website there's a good chance any mistakes would be corrected.

suzy is old school and still is running on older mis - information about lots of things .

she is definitely not a retirement planning expert in any way . her knowledge based on recent research by the likes of kitces , pfau , milevsky and blanchett is totally void .

she should stay away from the topics of retirement planning -period . what she spews is old out dated information geared for her audience who as a group have little assets and heavy debt .
