I did an early estimate on my 2016 Tax Return and it looks like I have not withheld enough over the course of this year. I would like to make an Estimated Quarterly Payment before the January 15, 2017 deadline to avoid any penalties.
But I can't verify the IRS Mailing Address. And how does the IRS link my random check to an actual withholding account ??
I'm sure someone in the Retirement Forum has this knowledge at the tip of their finger...please share.
I pay estimated taxes...have for years. I must put my Social Security Number on the check and "2016 Form 1040-ES". You should be able to download the instructions/form. It is "2016 Does 1040-ES/V (OCR). I mail to Internal Revenue Service, P.O. Box 1300, Charlotte, NC 28201-1300. Once you are in their system, you will receive a new batch of envelopes and forms for the next year.
Ah Yes, that's it. I was concerned about the proper mailing address for South Carolina.
I'm changing my Pension Check to have a little more withheld each month next year. I'm not looking for a huge Refund, nor do I want to write a big Check to my Rich Uncle Sam. Just looking to get it close to break-even.
I love that IRS Publication mentions the Paperwork Reduction Act........and it's 12 pages long !!!

Reason: spelling

I never get envelopes and forms.

I prefer not to put my Credit Card or Bank Account digits online, especially on the IRS website. Call me old fashioned but I don't think their security is hack-proof.
Yes, Louisville is the destination and the Pony Express will get it their in good time.
Why not just wait until you file your 2016 returns and pay if you owe? Generally they will not penalize you for underpayment especially if you have paid them something during the year.
