There are lots of people I've interacted with on here that would be fun to meet for a beer, but if I was given a choice of meeting anyone it would be either Escort Rider or ohio_peasant.
I was lucky enough to meet AZDesertBrat after I came out here. She was very much as I imagined she would be and I loved the time I spent chatting with her.
Likewise Ms. Deelighted! I am honestly still trying to figure out how to get outta Dodge and get down to see you! It's been one thing after another around here for a while now BUT after the holidays are over I AM taking some very much needed time off. This week (at work) has been chaos, and it will only get worse till it gets better, so I'll be more than ready to 'escape' after New Years. Keep your fingers crossed! lol
So far two people have approached me in public and asked if I was so-so on City-Data.
That has happened to me at work. I suppose everyone knows where I work and since we are the only one in a 50 mile radius, it probably wouldn't be too hard to figure out who I am. We do have a few CD posters who live in the area but I really don't see them posting anymore.
I actually thought it was pretty awesome! Mostly because they didn't know my 'real' name but somehow figured out who I was. There are so many here I'd love to meet and talk to. I think a group meet would be awesome!

probably safe to meet at Quartzite (even better for the frugal / shoestring retirees / shoppers / campers).
Surely many of us have met before
Better meet BEFORE your 10th C-D anniversary, as we are ALL getting a tad older than when we started... My 10 yr is next month, I was but a wee child and newly 'retired' (1.5 yrs)...
Speaking only for myself, I've disclosed much about my financial situation here on C-D that I'd never dream of discussing with a stranger over casual drinks or coffee. I've also alluded to personal family situations that I'd not discuss in person because it would violate relatives' privacy if someone could identify them through me.
Perhaps I'm wrong to think that others feel the same?
In meeting in person, I wouldn't think any of us would have to spill the beans about every aspect of our lives. I would meet a seemingly compatible forum member only to feel out whether there's enough compatibility to carry on a friendship over time. (I would never pry for private information.)
Interestingly, I'm much more open with my life with friends afar, whom I talk with by phone. I have no concern they'd pass on, willingly or inadvertently, anything I say to anyone I know locally.
I just read this thread today, and thank you to those people who included me as someone in the forum whom they would like to meet.
There are quite a few people I would like to meet, but I wouldn't name any because five minutes later I would be back banging out a revision to add more names that had just come slowly, sloooooooooowly into my ageing mind. There are a very, very few people whom I get bad vibes from or who have expressed an opinion that I find repugnant, but some of these I would like to meet too...because they come across as interesting, despite my negative feelings. And there is one person, who appears to be more widely disliked than I can grasp, whom I would definitely want to meet.
Forbidden topics for me, hmmmmmmmm. I am just shy of 79, and my attitude is a bit like that of the Landlady (Lotte Lenya) in the 1966 Broadway musical Cabaret, when she sang her first song "So What?"....personal upset and consternation usually dies a quick death with me." Anyone who attempted to plummet the depths of my mind on the topic of finances would get a concussion as the water is extremely shallow. Politics/social issues - I am rarely willing (or should that be "able") to foam at the mouth about these issues, as long as I am not handed solutions of state-controlled mass extermination I will sit and listen...for awhile. Religion/philosophy - I would be most cautious here, in no small measure because I know that I can be tediously slow and picky about what I want to say...booooooooring, and also as conversations on this topic probably fare better one on one.
In the Eighties and early Nineties I participated in several topical groups on Usenet. I lived in NYC, a place that many people visit or pass through; so some of the NYC participants in one of these groups would meet for dinner with out-of-town participants visiting the city. And for this group entertaining of visitors from other parts of the country became customary in several places. Also, once a year there was a national get together in some interesting spot for those who wanted to subcribe to it. (I never did.) I still know one women from this group and we became good friends over many years, and she and her husband are coming to Portugal to visit, and this will be the first time in 17 years that I have laid eyes on her.
I think I would enjoy meeting many of the people here in person.

Wow that's a long time to keep my fingers crossed! If you do manage to come this way, we'll have to break PhoenixBarb's arm and get a meeting set up with her too!
I've got the futon and a rollaway bed so there's always room for company. I'll keep the lights on for you
I wonder, if there were to be a CD-Retirement national meet, what that event would look like. Awkward like some high school/college reunions? Raucous? Boring? How would we find, in person, the one(s) we want to talk to from liking them on CD-R? Perhaps a velvet curtain "grand entrance" for each of us with bows? (lol). Many of us have put in many years here on CD-R, and still I can't get a handle on who these anonymous posters really are, and cannot imagine any in real life.
