If your retired you don't, thats the only bad thing about being retired except being old.

Well it's you're as in you are, not your. Anyway, I would much rather have the day off, and since I'm retired I get paid anyway for doing nothing.

Exactly. They don't deduct from SS or any pension you might have if there's a holiday.

Now, self-employed people are another story. If I don't work today, I don't get paid by anyone.

When I worked holidays I just got regular pay. just less staff to do same amount of work.


I much prefer retirement.

i help out every so often at work doing training for them so i miss getting paid for today and tomorrow like the other employess do when we are closed for the holiday .

As far as I am concerned being retired and not having to go to work greatly, greatly outweighs getting paid for a holiday. Lots of folks even have to work tomorrow. My job will be spending time with the grandkids since the parents need to work and day care is closed.
