If you are retired or fast approaching that point in life, it would not be unusual at all that you may be on some medications to help you along for one or more health conditions. What medications are you on that you consider to be life-saving that you will probably be on for the foreseeable future?

As a retired person, the one thing I avoid talking about is health issues. No one wants hear a bunch of complaints. The complaints only seem to make the complainer feel worse. Nothing is accomplished in the process.

Millions of retirement-aged people are on statins, antihypertensives and insulin. I cannot imagine why anyone would want a list of forum members on those and additional meds.

I guess I see it differently. The people I talk with at the gym (the seniors) talk to me about all kinds of health issues. I've learned a lot from them and I really appreciate their candor. I don't find it depressing and I don't think they do.... they just like to talk about their issues. Many people at some point in life will be going on medications which will hopefully help them manage health issues which come along as we get older.... that's just normal. I'm grateful that we live in this age of modern medicine. I started on statins myself a few years ago for a high blood lipid problem, which also ran in the family, and eventually I had to take crestor to bring it down to what the doctor thinks is a very good level...... especially with lowering the ldl's. I was just reading recently about some new trials going on with newer cholesterol lowering medications which are even more amazing in what they hope to accomplish as far as dealing with plaque build-up.

I am in agreement with you on this point ... generally.

I think that the ONLY exception is within your family. If family members share what their different problems are it often can serve as a call for those younger to take preventative measures years before they get symptoms.

As for publishing all my prescriptions on a public forum, I see no need and have no inclination to do so.

They may be talking to you because no one else wants to hear it. The biggest complaint I hear is people talking about their health. Quick way to lose friends.

I don't take any medications.

I have no health issues and I don't take any medications. I suspect that's true for a lot of retired people.

The only medication I absolutely need to stay on for life is thyroid. I also take an antidepressant. Though it's not absolutely essential, it does such a good job of managing my lifelong tendency toward anxiety and depression without any noticeable side effects that I will have no problem staying on it for life.
