Merry Christmas to All!

Kids were here yesterday. We had our usual feast, some moments of gratitude, some silliness and package opening and then desserts.

We were all tired out by eight p.m. Off daughter went to prepare for Christmas Day with a new male friend, a regular "meat and potatoes guy."

Son went home with an invitation to join us later today for leftovers and a movie.

I slept until 9:30am and when I got up DH was just finished running the dishwasher. We've got things all put away now and are communing alone with each other on our respective computers. Hah.

Christmas was a low-key and gentle celebration of family this year. Life is good.

On Thursday DH has his Christmas birthday!

Skyped with my grandchild yesterday and today and discovered that if I say "I'm going to kiss you!" and slowly go in and kiss the cam, he laughs and laughs! Even as he wakes up from a nap, which is his cranky time.

Brother and wife and three kids, 14, 12 and 10 are here for a week, we spend most of the time at my parents. Big dinner last night, today gifts and low key meals, leftovers and appetizers. Last night introduced the kids to a family favorite, Mr Hulot's Holiday. They liked it! Good kids! Parents getting very frail, so we are all cherishing these moments.

Merry Christmas to all, and wishing you a prosperous New Year. Just returned home from church after dropping off my lady friend. Will be going over to her place in a couple hours for an early dinner. Will check what's at the cinema for later, maybe. We saw Rogue One the other day, (same ol', same ol'; but still worthwhile). I'd like to see the La La Land musical, but the reviews are horrible. Still, I enjoy musicals. They are usually "happy".

Horrible reviews???

La La Land is currently one of the highest - - -if not the highest - - - rated movies currently in circulation.

It has an IMDB rating of 8.9 out of 10, a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 93%, and a 93 out of 100 from Metracritic, which includes several critics who gave it a perfect score of 100! Perfect scores came from The Toronto Globe & Mail, Miami Herald, Slate, The Guardian, and The Hollywood Reporter among others.

The movie has also received 7 Golden Globes nominations including the Big Five of Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

Now I'm sure that there may be a couple of individual reviewers somewhere who didn't like the movie, byt the general overall consensus is that it is an excellent film.

We went to the cinema yesterday evening, and La La Land was pulled from all the Cinemark theaters in our immediate area, (three of them). Was a bit disappointed that it was no showing.

Have you ever seen Brigadoon? I know that big screen is nicer, but you can hear the music on this one just as well. The 1966 version is free on Youtube.

I just decided to watch it for perhaps the twentieth time. Watch this one with your lady friend. Make some popcorn.
