This is gonna suck but here it goes (grandparent, divorce, long-term)

He was often in a lot of pain from a back problem. That can make a person look older.
Didn't people in general look " older" back then - 50s, 60s?
I have pics of my older siblings from high school days and you would think they were 30 and 40. Not from the face, but the way they dressed. Very formal even for school. The girls wore high heels and carried handbags on their arms. Hair teased and sprayed in place.
Regarding people looking older "back in the good old days"....... in another thread (kitchens)...... mention is made of how things were done back then and how technology has advanced in this day and age.
If I had to work as hard as my mother did, I would be looking a whole lot older now myself. She never got a "vacation". No air conditioning! Ironing at night so it would be cooler. Wash and wear? Not back then, everything required ironing. Cooking... laundry (hanging clothes in the yard)..... spring cleaning, fall cleaning, caring for kids and husband. She worked a heck of a lot harder than I ever thought of, even when considering she did not work outside the home. And when she got sick..... who did the work then? She did.
And now in this day and age we have people concerned with how young they look "for their age."
Good grief...... what have we become? I prefer to be with people who have their feet on the ground, know what is important in life, not someone who can't pass a mirror without looking at their reflection or spends hundreds of dollars on lotions and creams that will keep us young forever. I look at the heart, not the face.
To all you posters who are certain you look a lot younger than your age..................
Go to a carnival where you win a stuffed bear if the carny misses guessing your age by more than a couple years.
You most likely will NOT be bringing a stuff bear home.
Someone posted something similar on another thread when I said nobody takes me for my real age and he also posted a link to a website where you put in your picture and the site tells you how old you really look. The computer said I look 48 which is what most people guess my age to be. I just turned 62. Again, it's good genetics. Everyone in my family looks younger than they are including my 81 year old mother.
Kudos to you for being as disciplined as you are. I'm sure a health lifestyle helps a good deal, but I have an unusually high number of female centenarians in my family and none of them were particularly careful about their diet. They were all very active even in their 80's and 90's. My Great Aunt who died this year at 103 was in a bowling league until she was 100 and only quit then because she was having knee pain.
As far as physical appearance, I would guess that smoking and sun damage probably ages one's appearance more than anything else but skin wrinkling and elasticity also seem to be largely genetic.
My mother was morbidly obese as long as I've known her -- I have memories of her starting around age 38. She eats a ton of sugar and highly processed carbs. No caffeine or booze. And she's still kickin' at 95. So I guess genes do play a huge part in it since morbid obesity alone is supposed to do you in by 60.

Not sure which website that you used but out of my curiosity about facial recognition software, I tried this website today
I checked 4 recent pictures and got 36, 37, 46 and 47!!! Two of the pictures were with another person. The computer did an OK job in guessing the age of a college girl (24 vs. 20) but way off in guessing the age of a male friend (78 vs. 65).
Looking young maybe flattering but I much prefer feeling young. I need all the stamina of a thirty something person to deal with another winter onslaught. We got a foot of snow lat Thursday and almost another foot of heavy wet snow coming down right now. With my husband being semi-invalid again with a bulging spinal disc/sciatica, I have to be the sole snow/ice disposer! Just hope that there would be no more major snowstorms which will require climbing on the roof to clear the snow!
I was reading the online news today and the oldest woman in America, who lived in NJ, just died at 114! She kinda looked like hell up an alley way, but nobody that makes it to her age is going to look like a 30 year old Joan Collins anyway! I figure this way ..."I'm breathing, I'm good!
She doesn't look that bad! She looks a lot like my Grandma did when she died at 82.

you are right about the feeling young! This morning woke up with a slight back ache and thought - oh no - is this the beginning of the "end"!!
When I was in high school I looked older than my age.
That was a big advantage as I could walk in any bar and have a beer.
Never got carded and a few "baby faces" who were 22 and 23 always got carded.
