So it's official, I made it and am eligible to start collecting Social Security benefits albeit a reduced age 62 benefit. This I shall not do at this time. I hope to cross other age milestone lines in my gracefully aging sand, God willing, in my years ahead.

If you are eligible now than you were eligible on February 1st!

Remembering if the benefit is $1,500 at 62 it will be $2,000 and will grow to $2,600 at 70

I started Collecting SS at 62 and never regretted it one second. After all you don't have to work anymore. I have hobbies and interests. I read somewhere if I make it to age 80 then I will have gotten the same amount of money from SS than if I had waited to 66 my full benefit age.

Each age "graduation" brings us closer to a secure retirement. I remember being excited at 59 1/2 because I could then tap my 403b without a penalty. Each age mark gives us more choices. I say this as 64 is approaching for me (nothing special about it, except it's closer to Medicare).

Agree with V8 Vega! Me too! Did the same.
OP, if you change your mind after 62 at least you now have the choice to retire at any time.
Best to you...

I'm now less than 10 years from 62. I will however wait until I have maxed out my SS monthly draw, unless I am forcibly retired either by corporate fiat or poor health.

I will be going to the Social Security office in the Federal Bldg where I work in September for a January 2018 payment. I can't wait!

I have worked for 40 years and it is time to hang it up.

Stay on top of your affairs. If there is a dramatic decline in your health, you may want to elect taking as early as possible.

If I experienced a dramatic decline in my health signing up for SS would not be one of my worries.
