I always felt that RiverBird was a real friend. I never met her; never had a phone conversation with her. But the contact I did have with her was always very warm and very kind.

Condolences to her family. I've very sad to realize I'll never read another post written by her.

RIP.

Full of life she was. I'm sure she's caring and entertaining in another world. I know she'll be missed in this one.

This news is very sad and surprising. RiverBird's posts always elevated the tone and direction of conversations on here. Though I never met her in real life, we exchanged a few emails and I was always impressed by her wisdom and grace. She was up here in Maine last autumn; now I wish I would have been brave enough to ask to meet up with her at a cafe or something.

My condolences to RiverBird's husband and family. They are very fortunate to have had such a special person as family.

Thank you for letting us know, in new england. It must have been difficult to hear that news from her husband.

OMG, I was thinking just the other day that I hadn't seen her posting for quite a while. Very sad.

Sad news to hear and surprising since she was posting in January quite a bit. Thanks for following up on this NE.

So many kind comments. This is a long time member who contributed so much and will truly be missed.

Last night I contacted a super mod and asked for the words Eternal Member to be placed under her name. If I don't hear back, I'll contact them again. That's the least we can do in her memory.

She was a very private person. From the time I first made email contact, she made me promise to never give out any information about her. But I will say that it was melanoma that took her.

She was diagnosed in June, got treatment. By November it had gotten worse and at some point Hospice was called in. She died at home early this month, holding hands with her husband. She leaves behind those dear grandchildren and of course, her beloved dogs. Not to mention her heartbroken husband.

I don't think any of us ever knew. She was still posting into January but never let on. It's hard to accept, hard to believe. But she is gone.

In_newengland, you might consider sending RiverBird's husband a link to this thread, so her family can see for themselves how highly esteemed she was here on these boards. They might find some comfort in knowing how much she meant to so many people here.

I never had the honor to 'meet' you. But it sure sounds like its my loss.

Gosh someone come up with a cure for cancer soon please.
