Last night I contacted a super mod and asked for the words Eternal Member to be placed under her name. If I don't hear back, I'll contact them again. That's the least we can do in her memory.

She was a very private person. From the time I first made email contact, she made me promise to never give out any information about her. But I will say that it was melanoma that took her.

She was diagnosed in June, got treatment. By November it had gotten worse and at some point Hospice was called in. She died at home early this month, holding hands with her husband. She leaves behind those dear grandchildren and of course, her beloved dogs. Not to mention her heartbroken husband.

I don't think any of us ever knew. She was still posting into January but never let on. It's hard to accept, hard to believe. But she is gone.
That was my experience with her several years ago and when we emailed and exchanged real names she asked and trusted me to keep mum and not post anything personal about her. Over the years she and I sometimes went head-to-head over issues but with respect and she was always gracious. While I haven't been active on the retirement board for some time now, I will miss her as so many others have expressed. Always a lady!

I was stunned to read about RiverBird's passing. I only know her through her postings here but feel like I had suddenly lost a good friend.

I first knew her through her old screen name, newenglandgirl. I found her posts interesting. Through her many personable posts, I sensed that she was a very intuitive, caring and intelligent person with a sensitive artist's soul. It was so courageous of her of never complained, never let on and continued posting through her last life struggle up until mid January.

Her passing is a great loss to her family, friends and us here at CD retirement forum.

May perpetual light shine upon her soul, and may her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in eternal peace, Amen.

I am so sorry to hear this! I have had a thread on my computer desktop for a couple of months now. It is a long thread, started by RiverBird, and when I have a few minutes, I read another page of the thread. I am so sad to hear of her passing. My condolences to her husband, other family members and, of course, her dogs. RIP, RiverBird. You will be missed.

Rest in peace, Riverbird. This is very sad news and words can't express the deeply felt loss. I, among many others, will miss her insightful, caring posts.

I have tears in my eyes, reading this. There are no words that convey the sadness I feel and I wish I had known of her illness. Such a wonderful human being, with enormous insight and good will. This is a very very big loss for us on CD as well as her family, friends and relatives.
