She claims that our public pension retirement counselor (state government) advised her how to do it, then posted on FB she "couldn't pass up this financial opportunity to retire early." She encouraged me to make an appointment and ask about it although, as I said, I have no intention of doing so. Her new home business is supposedly an LLC, "licensed and insured," so I assume she takes other than cash payments under the table and will report income to the IRS? Unless that's a lie, too. Funny!

This is probably a state pension, not Social Security. I know people who took state jobs at age 20 or 21 and have 2% per year vesting in a defined benefit pension. At age 52, you'd get 64% of your last pay check and you wouldn't pay state income tax on it and you'd get health insurance until age 65. If the state is trying to shed older, more expensive workers, they'll often offer you 5 more years of pension vesting so it would be 74% of your last pay check. A lot of blue states had that kind of deal for employees who started in the 1980's.

No. We currently have no such "window" available, although we have in the past. She specified that the state pension itself wouldn't have allowed her to retire early; she needed that unexpected boost from the SS option which, apparently, doesn't exist. Who knows?

This is sounding like a scam to get coworkers, relatives, friends and neighbors to make an appointment and her new home based business is getting a finders fee for everyone she can get to signup for whatever this guy is trying to sell. (Think time shares, Amway, how to make a fortune in (fill in the blank) etc.)
When I saw the business card, I did have to wonder if it was really a "licensed and insured LLC" or if she just saw that on other business cards and included it, LOL.
